Default Applications
Oreon comes with a selection of default applications chosen for stability, usability, and integration with the desktop environment. This guide provides an overview of the key applications included.
Web Browser
Oreon includes Mozilla Firefox as the default web browser. Firefox is a popular, open-source browser known for its speed, security features, privacy focus, and extensive customization options through add-ons.
It integrates well with the desktop environment and provides a robust platform for browsing the modern web, managing bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history.
File Manager
The default file manager is Nautilus (often simply called "Files"). It offers an intuitive graphical interface for browsing folders and files on your computer, external drives, and network locations (like SMB shares or SFTP connections).
Key features include multiple views (icons, list), tabs, file search, integrated compression/decompression, and customizable sidebars.
Text Editor
For general-purpose text editing, Oreon provides Gedit. It's a lightweight yet capable editor suitable for taking notes, editing configuration files, and writing basic scripts.
Gedit supports syntax highlighting for various programming languages, multiple tabs, search and replace, plugins for extended functionality, and automatic saving.
Terminal Emulator
Access to the powerful Linux command line is provided through GNOME Terminal. It allows you to run commands, manage system processes, and perform advanced administrative tasks.
Features include support for multiple tabs and windows, customizable profiles (fonts, colors), unlimited scrollback, and transparency options.
System Settings
System configuration is managed through the GNOME Control Center, typically accessed via the "Settings" entry in the application menu or system tray.
It provides a centralized location to manage network connections (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, VPN), display resolution and arrangement, sound devices, power settings, user accounts, privacy controls, keyboard layouts, printers, and more.

Oreon also includes several essential utilities for common tasks:
- Image Viewer: Typically Eye of GNOME (eog) or similar, for viewing various image formats.
